One of My Poems...

She's the One

She's the one

Who sits beside you in your workspace

She's the one

Who pilots the aircraft you commute on

She's the one

Who tends to your broken bones

She's the one

Who teaches your children on a daily basis

She's the one

Who rings up your purchases at the checkout

She seems to be strong and confident

Yet inside she is crumbling and falling apart

She appears to be enjoying life

Yet inside she is ready to give up the race

She is able to laugh and tell jokes

Yet inside she is weeping and distressed

She seems to be holding it all together

Yet inside the dam is ready to burst

She's the one...with hidden bruises and pains

She's the one...Do you know this one?

Characteristics of a Mother

 A mother

Is perfectly human

Unable to leap tall buildings

Yet able to bridge the gaps of age

A mother

Has a love for her child

That resembles a majestic waterfall

Its depth cannot be seen

A mother

Is endowed with a compassion

Fierce enough to protect her young

Yet gentle enough to soothe the deepest fears

A mother

Is a gift to her child

One that doesn't require opening

As her heart doesn't know how to shut down

A mother

Is her child's best advocate

Able to come to her child's rescue

At a silent cry for help

A Poem I Wrote For the 2005 Annual Candlelight Vigil

I Am Reminded...

When I hear the heavy rains pouring outside

I am reminded of those nights that you wept in pain

Longing within to be held in arms of comfort

I yearned to run to your side and embrace you

Affirming to you, your worth and importance to me

When I hear the thunderous roars of the stormy skies

I am reminded of those treacherous storms

That consumed your life on a daily basis

I yearned to tenderly draw you close to me

And whisper to your spirit of my deep love for you

When I hear of the wars occurring in our world

I am reminded of the battlefield you called home

In which you were wounded and battered daily

I yearned to rescue you from the weapons of abuse

And bring you to a place of comfort and peace

When I see the lightening as it strikes in the dark skies

I am reminded of those dark secrets which I knew you held

Being too terrified to trust and speak them out

I yearned to sit close to you and tell you that I knew

And carry you away to a place of freedom

When I see the rainbow stretching across the sky above

I am reminded of the hope which you now have eternally

As you no longer remember the pains you once knew

Now living in a peace you previously dreamed of knowing

When I hear the laughter of a young child

I am reminded that at that very moment

You are consumed no longer with tears and sorrows

But with child-like laughter and joy

When I see the first rays of the morning sun

I am reminded of your spirit of gentleness

And that as I watch the sun rising in the sky

You are being forever embraced in the light of hope

When I sit on the beach and watch the waves come and go

I am reminded of your life which still continues on

Through the sweet memories that I have of you

Which will remain with me for all of time
